Venetian Castle
The castle of Kyparissia overmasters the landscape of Ano Poli. Offers to the visitor panoramic view of the city and Kyparissiakos gulf. Archeological site of Peristeria
Close to Kyparissia near village Raches is situated the archeological site of Peristeria with three arched Mycenaean tumbs where were discovered many significant archeological units of Mycenaean period like vessels, gold mugs and jewelry.
Valley of Neda
River of Neda, the only female-named river of Greece, consist the natural border between the prefecture of Ileia and Messinia. The palace of King Nestoras
Close to Kyparissia (about 40km) to the way to Kalamata stands the palace of King Nestoras the most well preserved Mycenaean palace. It consists of 105 appartments as the Hall of Throne, the Bath and Warehouses. There have been saved wall paintings and written boards with the second oldest form of greek language, Grammiki B’. The palace dates around 13 B.C. century.
The city of ancient Messini
Ancient Messini is one of the most well preserved in bigness and figure cities in Ancient Greece, which has not been either destroyed neither repopulated. It dates back in the 4th B.C. century and is built with the ippodameio urban design. Also operates Museum where are exposed various findings that operates daily 8:00-14:00 with the exception of Mondays (tel:2724051201).
Archeological Museum of Hora
The archeological Museum of Hora exposes exhibits from 3.000 B.C. up to the years of Romans. Its most significant units are findings from the palace of King Nestoras. It operates daily 8:30-15:00 with the exception of Mondays (tel:2765031358).
Ancient Olympia
The homeland of Olympic Games, the sanctum of Ancient Olympia, is situated 60km from Kyparissia. The vast archeological site where the Games used to take place and its Museum are reasons of unfailing visit. In the Museum is exposed Hermes of Praxiteles one masterpiece of Greek art (tel:2624022529).
The Temple of Epicurean Apollo
Seventy kilometers of Kyparissia close to Andritsaina is placed the Temple of Epicurean Apollo, one of the most well preserved monuments of antiquity in Peloponnese. Built in 420 B.C.- 400 B.C. approximately by architect Iktinos, the one that built Parthenon.
Mineral Springs of Kaiafas
Twenty Kilometers away from Kyparissia are the mineral springs of Kaiafas known for their healing characteristics since the antiquity. Once you go there you can enjoy the exceptional landscape of the lagoon overgrown with pines and the picturesque island of Agia Aikaterini in its centre.
